August dribbles - 23

After the broken-hearted
Rain, after the tears had started
Making puddles in the grass
After the last
Dark shadow, then
I watched summer’s lead body, hard-shelled gloom
Long-limbed desire, long-lost, long-stolen peace
Long trapped in stone open
One single step, one tiny heart-beat at a time to rhyme with you.
